AMSA SGMarrow works with the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP) to increase the chances for patients with blood-related diseases who require a Bone Marrow Donation (BMD) to find a viable match.

ABOUT US

SGMarrow is a collaboration between the Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) and the Bone Marrow Donor Programme (BMDP), which builds and manages Singapore’s only register of volunteer bone marrow donors. For some Singaporeans suffering from terminal blood-related diseases, receiving bone marrow from a compatible donor may possibly be their last chance to renew their lives. However, the register still lacks numbers due to the lack of awareness about the programme and misconceptions about the process of bone marrow transplant.

Hence, our project was set up in 2015. It seeks to empower our youth and the public by providing more knowledge on bone marrow donation and blood diseases, as both are topics that may not be well understood. We also aim to encourage more people to sign up for the donor register. This has been done mainly through the organisation of bone marrow donation drives NTU and CSB by LKCMedicine.

We plan to continue organising such donation drives and outreach programmes in NTU. Furthermore, we plan to extend our reach through possible collaboration with other universities, polytechnics and secondary schools. We hope to reach out to more youth to be bone marrow donors and to spread awareness on bone marrow donation.

Thus far, many patients have benefited tremendously from the work of BMDP and we hope you continue positively impacting the lives of many more patients!
