ABOUT US

Project Tongxin was founded in 2024 as an OCIP aiming to provide aid in the rural areas of the Qinghai province, specifically addressing healthcare issues related to the high altitude. We hope to embark on a larger scaled trip providing eyedrops, eye check-ups, health screenings and more by collaborating with our Singaporean dermatologists and ophthalmologists.

Founded in 2024, Project Tongxin is one of four OCIPs in LKCMedicine extending outreach beyond ASEAN. We collaborate with the Tianjin Development Zone Charity Association and its subsidiary, the Tongxin Youth Charity Fund, to provide health education and screenings to communities in Qinghai Province, China. Additionally, we aim to conduct meaningful activities and raise funds to upgrade facilities at Hope Home (希望之家), an orphanage for Tibetan children

Objectives of the Project:

  • Provide accessible, free eye checkups focused on prevention, early detection, and treatment of common eye diseases.
  • Brighten the lives of children at Hope Home through physical engagement and improve their living conditions through facility upgrades.
  • Conduct home visits to understand social determinants of health in rural communities and address disparities in healthcare access.
  • Cultivate cultural sensitivity and the ability to provide empathetic care to diverse populations.

Activities Conducted:

  • In July 2025, the Project Tongxin team completed a 7-day recce trip to Qinghai Province, covering Zhuoni County, Xining, and Gannan County. We visited primary schools, conducting basic English lessons and simple eye health education. Due to the region’s high UV exposure, our ophthalmologist provided eye screenings and eyedrops as needed.
  • At Hope Home, a local orphage, we identified areas for support, including kitchen and classroom upgrades. We also built strong bonds with the children and learned how our funding significantly contributes to their education.
  • We explored high-altitude environments to understand how geographic isolation affects healthcare access, infrastructure, and disease management.
