ABOUT US
Project Songkeum has been running programmes devoted to increasing the health literacy of the villagers in Siem Reap, Cambodia since 2015. We distinguish ourselves from other OCIPs through our focus on health education for both adults and children, as well as additional ventures into vocational training and house visits, contributing to the betterment of the lives of Cambodians.
Songkeum means hope in Khmer! As a team, we hope to serve a cause bigger than ourselves, to the best of our ability and to the fullest of our capacity. We aim to empower them to make better healthcare decisions by imparting invaluable healthcare information. The trip also offers an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the Cambodian healthcare practices, against the backdrop of the Khmer culture.
Objectives of project
The mission of Project Songkeum is to help the Cambodian community build better lives for themselves through health education, and through vocational training for those transitioning to the next phase of their lives.
Activities Conducted
Kids Program
In the kids programme (Age range 6-17), the lessons involve skits and hands-on activities to engage with the children. Topics range from the importance of personal hygiene to puberty. We also conduct health screenings which include height and weight and eye screening tests.
Adults Program
In the adults programme, our focus is to impart health knowledge to the locals, pertaining to the issues faced within the village. Topics include wound dressing, muscle pain, importance of a healthy diet and family planning. We also conduct house visits within the village to know more about the issues that are most relevant to them.
Vocational Training
We conduct workshops to equip youths and other parties from Vocational Schools, Universities and NGOs. Topics conducted during the past trips include Excel, Powerpoint, Annual Report writing, and Interview Skills.
