Project Prism aims to educate medical students on how to best support LGBTQ+ patients in their future work, to ultimately improve outcomes and accessibility in queer healthcare.

ABOUT US

Project Prism is an LCIP founded in 2024 to improve medical student competencies in supporting queer patients in Singapore through education and exposure, ultimately seeking to bridge gaps and improve outcomes in healthcare for queer patients in Singapore. We are partnered with kayos kollective, a local research lab comprising a diverse team of public health researchers and social workers.

Our annual clinical communications workshop aims to provide basic knowledge about queer identities to facilitate respectful and productive engagement, dispel misinformation that may lead to detrimental or unhelpful care/advice, as well as educate participants about common issues faced by queer patients.

Past speakers at our workshop include Rain Koh, co-founder of Transgender SG, and Dr Jeremiah Pereira, recipient of the APCOM HERO Award 2023 for their work in gender-affirming care. The workshop includes simulated patient (SP) encounters for students to practice their communication skills, conducted with the aid of kayos kollective who provide their expertise through co-creation of SP scenarios tailored for our workshop's focus, as well as their members who serve as SPs providing authentic responses and feedback.
