Serving Kampong Chhnang in Cambodia, we aim to address the gaps in healthcare knowledge through sharing medical knowledge and skills with local health centres and schools.

ABOUT US

Formerly known as Project Kyannmar started in 2018, Project Chhnang is a fresh new OCIP that started serving in Kampong Chhnang in 2022! We work together with a Cambodian based non-profit organisation, Water and Healthcare organisation (WAH) to serve villages in Chhnang province in Cambodia. We aim to further help WAH roll out their efforts on the ground, by sharing medical knowledge on topics such as nutrition, infection prevention control, and CPR with healthcare workers in local health centres. Our hope is to upskill them so that they are able to provide better quality care to the locals and improve the outcomes of treatment, as well as for them to advocate healthier living habits to the locals to target chronic and infectious diseases at its root. Furthermore, we are constantly revising our education curriculum based on the needs of the community, and as requested by WAH.

From 10 June to 14 June in 2025, 6 of us from project Chhnang went to Kampong Chhnang and with the help of WAH, we served 3 health centres and 6 schools through sharings on medical topics based on guidelines from Singapore’s Health Promotion Board.

Objectives of project

To expand the medical knowledge and skills of healthcare workers in local health centres and share hygiene education with school children, so that

1. Healthcare workers would in turn educate their patients on common health issues faced such as malnutrition, alcoholism.

2. Healthcare workers can provide better treatment to their patients and learn life-saving skills.

3. The incidence of communicable diseases locally would decrease by improving hygiene practices.

More about WAH

WAH is an organisation focused on improving the lives and conditions of rural communities in Kampong Chhnang, through dedication to sustainable clean water, healthcare & education. They organise cataract missions annually, involving international doctors, and have an upcoming partnership with UNICEF to tackle malnutrition in Kampong Chhnang. It is registered as a not-for-profit organisation in both Singapore and Cambodia. We work closely with Dr Rany, the executive director of WAH.

Current work at Health centres

We shared relevant information with the healthcare workers, such as

- Hand hygiene for infection control

- Good dietary and nutritional practices for adults and infants

- Alcoholism

- CPR for drowning and Heimlich manouvere

As the healthcare workers do not receive any regular upskilling, they were very eager to learn from guidelines in Singapore and also learn life-saving skills via hands-on practice.

Current work at schools

We taught the students the importance of having good body hygiene, the seven steps of handwashing, dental hygiene and body hygiene.
