Emergency Medicine SIG

LKCMedicine Emergency Medicine (EMed) SIG aims to broaden students' exposure to EMed through a wide variety of student-initiated events and foster interest in the adrenaline packed career!

ABOUT US

The LKCMedicine EMed SIG introduces students to the field of emergency medicine through TriMedSoc sharing, our flagship event Emed Night and more!

In AY24/25, we organised EMed Night, where students who are interested in emergency medicine came together to solve a series of tasks that tested their knowledge and response to various immersive scenarios. For example, students played the role of a first responder in a disaster and triage simulation, and learnt how to handle a mass casualty crisis and prioritise care to the injured. Students also had the chance to learn how to do focused trauma ultrasound scans, and bandage wounds. We were joined by EMed physicians Dr Lokesh & Dr Suhairi, our mentors who answered questions from our students.

During TriMedSoc Sharing (in conjunction with NUS YLL and Duke-NUS), students had the chance to connect with doctors and students from all 3 healthcare clusters. They learnt more about how an EMed career and residency is like, and how it differs between clusters.

On the publicity front, the Diagnostic Dilemmas series challenged students with case scenarios and quizzes, exploring trauma care through real-life examples applicable from M1-5. Humans of Emed, a series of interviews of EMed doctors, explored their journey in the career, why they chose this specialty, and life as an ED specialist.

We encourage all students who have an interest in EMed, or watnt o find out more about this fulfilling specialty to join us in our events!
