12th MedSoc
The 12th LKCMedSoc stayed committed to serving the student body for AY24/25, ensuring that no voice would be left unheard.
With Matthew (VP Edu) spearheading the academic front, Eugene (Careers Head), Hu Yi (Research Head) and Yong Yi (Academic Head) worked tirelessly to meet the education needs of our students, ensuring opportunities and resources for all students to explore their academic endeavors and strive for academic excellence. The Careers Committee kick-started our its inaugural Careers Fair, with the goal of showcasing the diversity of career prospects available for us in the future, while the Research Committee organised its annual LKC Research Symposium to showcase our students' work. Over the year, Matthew has worked to bolster school and MedSoc support for student education activities, having secured expanded competition funding, established new funding norms for SIG activities with Eugene, and supported Yong Yi in bringing academic committee initiatives like Bridging and Mock OSCEs in greater alignment with the school—ensuring that we have a sustainable framework for continuing our work in the years ahead.
Yan Xin (VP Wellbeing) worked closely with Erwin (Welfare Head), the Year Reps (Romen, Andre, Jaden, Xin Tien, Surya) and House Reps to advocate for your interests and concerns to the faculty, and to implement initiatives to enhance your welfare throughout the year. Notably, Xin Tien and Yan Xin successfully fought hard for the increase in elective funding from $1800 to $2300. Other focuses include CHERI system and attendance policies, while maintaining the standards of our Welfare Week, Inter-House Games and many others. As the number of houses increased from 5 to 8, we worked closely with the M1 year reps and house reps specifically to help strengthen the bonds in these new houses. We want to emphasise the importance of keeping our community clean, as the Medsoc can only do so much in helping ensure the hygiene standards of our facilities at Level 8. We are all responsible for our beautiful campus, so let's work together to create a pleasant environment for studying and playing.
Xavier (HGS), Jireh (Outreach Director), Charmaine (PnP Head) as well as Yong Kang (PnP Committee Member) worked hand in hand to develop a brand new LKCMedSoc website, integrating all the different activities into this one-stop portal, containing all the information on our events and committees, including CIPs and SIGs. Xavier, Jireh, Charmaine, and their committees have improved accessibility to information. Xavier ensured utmost transparency in our meetings with faculty through comprehensive minutes and keeping everyone up to date with exciting external opportunities that are beneficial and relevant to our students.
Hui Fang (Programmes Director) led her programmes committee, comprising Edward (AnC Head), Zicheng (DnD Head), Zi Herng (FOP Head), and Gerald (Sports Head), to conduct a refreshing diversity of events for our students to unwind and pursue hobbies beyond medicine. This includes our annual Dinner and Dance, Surfs Up, Freshmen Orientation Programme, First Class, and PBnJ, amongst many other events. Both DnD and FOP have received wonderful feedback from the ground and we are very grateful for the energy that you all have given us by participating actively in everything we planned.
Beyond LKC, Jireh (Outreach Director), Yu Ping (OCIP Head), Zhijun (LCIP Head) and Isaac (International Relations Head) have led their teams to ensure that our community service experience runs smoothly. We hope that with the support from our team, the CIPs made beautiful memories with one another and strengthened ties with their beneficiaries. Isaac played an integral role in reaching out to multiple medical schools to increase our pool of exchanges and elective choices. Together with his team, we hosted the Hong Kong Medical Association, comprising of their vice-deans, professors and fellow medical students.
Supporting all our events is Elyse (Honorary Treasurer) who has been working hard behind the scenes, not just to make sure that our committees receive the funding needed to run events that will benefit you. She has looked through every single proposal and supported every event one way or another.
Edison (NTUSU Representative, SU President) has played an integral role in advising and supporting us when we venture beyond school-level into univeristy-level at NTU. With his experience and comprehensive knowledge of NTU, he became our bridge and executed many of his own policies to better the lives of students not just in LKCMedicine but in NTU as well. He ensured our representation in the NTUSU Council and boosted our branding by hosting nation-wide events such as the University Leaders Dialogue in CSB.
